Founded in 1988 with a focus on wheelchair lifts and stair lifts, Cambridge Elevating gradually evolved to solely specialize in residential elevators.
The previous owner, Derek Hamilton purchased the company in 2004. Recognizing the accessibility need of home elevators would expand to the public’s desire for greater convenience, the company focused on supplying elevators to the new home construction industry at the expense of the accessible product lines.
Since that time, the company’s customer base has grown, as have staffing levels. From five employees in 2003, Cambridge Elevating now has 80+ workers. What was a job shop producing a few elevators a week is now a well-oiled made-to-order elevator producing machine for homebuilders and progressive homeowners in every major city across North America.
To accommodate this growth, the company moved into a building the firm purchased in 2018 that’s more than twice the size of its former facility. The new home features amenities like a lounge, fitness area and showers. The Sr. Leadership team works on employee culture as much as they do on cost control and other important facets of a business.
In January of 2024, Derek sold the company to the Sr. Leadership team. Jamie Hamilton holds the title of President, strategic and important managerial duties are shared with colleagues Josh Bruce, VP Operations and Richard Wright, VP Finance.
